About

A life-long resident of Hampton, Gary graduated from Hampton Consolidated School and from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Masters in Education.

Following his passion for education, Gary ran and was elected to the District Education Council for Anglophone South. He represented Sub-district 10, which includes all Hampton and area schools including Belleisle, Macdonald Consolidated and Hammond River Valley. Gary also served on the Board of Directors for Sussex Health Centre Services Inc.

Gary increased his community activities shortly after he retired as a school principal\administrator in 2010, after working 32 years at several schools in the Hampton, Belleisle and Sussex areas. Along with his elected duties, Gary has volunteered with the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre, where his mother was a resident, and the Hampton Food Basket.

In 2012 Gary was elected to Hampton Town Council as Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Planning Advisory Committee. He also served as Council representative on the Economic Development and Tourism Committee.

Gary was first elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 and 2020, as the Progressive Conservative MLA representing the Riding of Hampton. In September 2020 Gary was appointed to Cabinet as the Minister, Regional Development Corporation as well as the Minister, Environment and Climate Change.

Gary continues to be a strong voice in the riding and in the Legislature where he has presented a number of petitions regarding roads, brush cutting, striping of lines, Darlings Island flooding and the protection of our historic covered bridges. He has been an advocate for a full compliment of high school trades courses for students in his riding and across the province.

Gary’s energy and enthusiasm can be seen through his large following on social media and attendance at most community events throughout the riding. He is a strong constituency MLA who seeks out congratulatory messages for deserving recipients and promotes supporting local business.

Gary’s dedication to his community has always been evident, as he poured his energies into the education of our children, into Town Council, District Education Council and now as your Member of the Legislative Assembly.

His energy and skills have been very evident through his representation of the people of this riding from Red Head to Hampton to Hammond River. Always a good listener, Gary is known for returning calls, emails and correspondence in a timely manner.

Gary and his wife Marcia are proud of their three children and four grandchildren.

Gary welcomes the opportunity to serve the constituents of the Hampton Riding.
